Hobbs and Shaw CONFIRMS Fast and the Furious and Deus Ex are in the same universe (H&S spoilers) Posted: 13 Oct 2019 02:50 AM PDT So Hobbs and Shaw basically tries to turn F&F into a sci-fi franchise, albeit awkwardly. But think about - Idris Elba is literally an Adam Jensen-style mech*, working for a secret shadowy organisation that has total control over the world media. They can just declare the two heroes are "fugitive terrorists" and its all over the news with no independent fact-checking or anything and then they're basically on the run from that point onwards. THEN THEY EVEN ACTIVATE IDRIS ELBA'S KILLSWITCH AT THE END OF THE MOVIE. And this secret shadowy organisation is trying to construct a super virus to control the masses, as well. I seriously was just imagining that the modulated voice of the shadowy leader was like Lucius DeBeers or something. Timeline wise, it all adds up - Hobbs and Shaw takes place in 2019, and I could totally see the world presented in that film progressing to Deus Ex: HR in 2027. I honestly felt like Hobbs and Shaw is the closest thing to a Deus Ex movie I've ever seen, which is sad cos the movie is terrible even by F&F standards. But I'm finding it hilarious imagining stories like Adam Jensen teaming up with an elderly Dom Toretto to take down the Illuminati with some ridiculous heist involving drag racing cars. In fact I was making up this headcanon while I was watching as the film was absolutely terrible and I needed to consume it with an extra layer of irony. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]
What sold you on the Deus Ex franchise? Posted: 13 Oct 2019 11:13 AM PDT Let me just start by stating the obvious. I love the dystopic universe that this franchise created. It introduced me to the genres of cyberpunk, transhumanism, and immersive sims from a young age, and the first Deus Ex is one of my favorite games of all time. Replaying it now for the 37th time, I'm still struck by the amount of detail and gameplay directions that, even now, are lacking in some modern day RPGs. For me, it's the small details that propel a great game into something truly exemplary and memorable. My question to my favorite subreddit is this: at which part, during which game, cemented it as an amazing game/franchise to you? I'll go first. It happened in the original game, early on. I remember coming back to UNATCO HQ, getting patched up after a particularly rough battle with some NSF thugs in the streets. Visiting Dr. Reyes in the medcenter, I spoke to some of the injured soldiers there. I told one in particular to get well soon. The other soldier thanked me for talking to his buddy, saying that the injured one admired me. Right then and there, I was 100% sold. I have never felt so immersed in a game until that moment. If you were Alex Denton who would you side with? Posted: 13 Oct 2019 05:18 AM PDT The Denton brothers, Templars, Illuminati or the Omar? I choose the Denton path because I'm a big fan of benevolent dictatorship (Helios) and his "Yes" quirks. Also the Denton brothers were the good guys in Deus Ex. [link] [comments]
