Odd way I took down the final boss

On my fourth or so attempt I ended up running around the barrier to the left and continued around the outisde of the room until I got to the room at about 2o'clock from where you start the fight.

Hacked through the door and saw a grill on the opposite wall. Walked up to the grill, smashed it, hopped through to the next room and there was Marchenko lying unconscious on the floor next to the coffee table.

Over the course of the fight I think I had disabled his two drones and that was about it. Might have shot him in the head once with the assault rifle to no effect. He had been blathering on with his monologue right up until I jumped through the grill. I didn't even think he was in the room seeing as it was locked.

Really odd way for the fight to end. Anticlimax. Anyone else have something similar?

I love small and packed worlds instead of large and empty. Do you have any other examples similar to Deus Ex and Mass Effect, or maybe even Hitman?
