Let's talk about the release date of Deus Ex.

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 10:13 AM PDT

TL;DR: Deus Ex was most likely released on 22nd of June, 2000 and not 17th

Yesterday, we Deus Ex fans all around the world celebrated the 20th anniversary of Deus Ex. Even NVIDIA tweeted about it. But Eidos-Montréal and official Deus Ex pages were silent, which caused a frustration in the community.

However, there are different claims about the release date. Steam page of Deus Ex states it as 22nd of June, meanwhile English Wikipedia of the series shows it as 23rd, albeit with no source. But when you navigate to the Wikipedia page of Deus Ex 1, you see 17th. Warren Spector himself says the game was shipped on 17th of June, but it appears 22th of June was the day on which the game was actually released. Let's have a look at some news articles and interviews from the release week:

    Bluesnews, June 12th 2000

Gone Gold has received word from Eidos Interactive that Deus Ex has, indeed, gone gold, and we verified with a quick call to Eidos that it should arrive on store shelves by June 22. Deus Ex is the first-person action RPG designed by Warren Spector and developed at ION Storm Austin.

    Bluesnews, June 16th 2000

The eagerly anticipated Deus Ex demo is now available for download at Gamecenter. The massive 139 MB download features one full mission and the training mission from ION Storm's first-person action RPG, which should appear on store shelves around June 22. Note that the demo had to be disabled for German users because of the regulations on displaying violence in games, and a German version will be released soon.

    Bluesnews, June 20th 2000

The Corporation has conducted a Q&A with Deus Ex designer Harvey Smith, talking to him about the game only a few days before it hits the shelves (later this week). Harvey hints at some post-Deus Ex projects, including talk of an add-on, and even the team's next game, which he describes as, "A first person, co-op multiplayer, highly interactive, immersive RPG" (which, oddly enough, is exactly what Deus Ex is - minus the multiplayer).

The Corporation interview with Harvey Smith, June 19th 2000

Our intrepid Mr. Poppinfresh managed to corner the elusive Harvey Smith, lead designer of the upcoming Deus Ex, and forced him to talk. The result was this stunning expose.

And the Metacritic page of Deus Ex, a year and a half later:

    RELEASED
    June 22, 2000

I couldn't find any news articles a few days after June 22nd 2000, explicitly stating that day as the release date but I think I provided enough. If you find more sources from June 2000 about the release date of Deus Ex, please let us all know in the comments.

After all, there is a chance that Eidos and Square Enix aren't straight up ignoring this franchise.

The release date of Deus Ex 1 is the 22nd, not the 17th

My friend /u/schipunov already made a thread talking about this, but I felt it needed a more obvious title.

I myself actually got it wrong in a meme post I made a few days ago.

If anyone has any original from the time period source for it being the 17th I'd love to see!

    JC Denton Color Scheme

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 06:50 PM PDT

Hey everyone! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Deus Ex, I am going to make a custom JC Denton figure. I need to make the clothes myself and I came across a problem.

Are JC's clothes Dark Blue or Black? In game they look blue but in promotional images they appear more black.

    Platinum question.

I know Deux Ex: Mindkind Divided has online trophies for the platinum but.. Here comes my question, can i get this plat at this day? I mean, this game has online servers right? If so, it scares me a lot.
