We need to keep an eye on whether or not the wealthy and influential will coincidently be "immune" to the Coronavirus

Of course we all know that the Coronavirus is just the beginning stage of the Grey Death.

Need help in installing a mod

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 07:47 AM PDT

Hello there! I have the GOG version of the original Deus Ex, and after playing it a few years ago, I decided to give the mods a chance. However, the only installation tutorial I have found on the internet is for the GMDX mod. I'd like to install the Redsun2020 mod, but I don't get how to install it. Can someone help me please?

I loved HR, but I am having trouble getting into MD (long post)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 07:46 AM PDT

    Hello everyone

I played the sh*t out of Human Revolution, with both the stealthy approach and gun blazing, doing all the side quests (including the DLC). I loved the concept, loved the setting, liked the story, I even found the dynamic between Adam and Pritchard really interesting, I liked the antagonists, etc... I was quite hyped for its sequel Manking Divided, but I knew I couldn't play it before a while, because I only had a MacBook Pro at the time.

So recently I was finally able to play MD, purchased super cheaply on steam, on my shiny PC. And... I just can't manage to care about it. I'm not far in the game, I arrived at the Task Force HQ for the first time, but I have no motivation to play further. The game looks good, plays good, the new augmentations look cool, I just don't care about the setting, the story or the characters. A couple of friends of mine had the same issue, they loved HR, tried MD, and stopped playing because they didn't care.

HR had a solid and intriguing premise: this is the golden age of augmentation (and the moral conflict that comes with it), one company is about to make a breakthrough, but the lead scientist is captured. Our badass protagonist Adam, who happens to be her boyfriend, is badly wounded, then "resurrected" as a cyborg and tasked to investigate.

Right from the start, you had stakes and personal motivation (avenging/rescuing Adam's GF, finding who did it, etc) and a personal conflict (how does he feel about being turned into a cyborg?). Simple, solid, urgent. The antagonists motivations made sense as well, whether we are talking about the Humanity Front, Tai Yong Medical or Huges Darrow (that petty SoaB).

In MD Adam... chase down terrorists... and also works for a secret society... or whatever? The first scene after the Dubai prologue is this one long exposition dialogue at the train station, and maybe it's me having a short attention span (or being plain stupid) but I couldn't care less of what they were talking about. To enjoy these kind of games, I need emotional/personnal stakes (like Adam avenging/rescuing his GF and coming to term with his new body, Gerald finding his adoptive daughter Ciri, etc). So far MD has none of that.

The premise of MD is basically the apartheid but against cyborgs, with the subtlety of a brick thrown at your face. Exit the dilemma of augmentations and the questions about human nature, enter the "prejudice is bad". I kept asking myself, why not just "de-augment" those people instead of parking them in ghetto? I like that the Aug Incident in the previous game had consequences (although it ignored whatever choice you made at the end of HR), but surely mega-corporations like TYM could throw lots of PR money to shift the blame to someone else?

Also, while I'm sure Prague is a lovely city IRL, it's such an unorthodox choice for a cyberpunk setting. I'm having trouble feeling like I'm in cyberpunk world with all this European architecture. I'll admit that I'd have preferred a more cliché setting with big skyscrapers and neon signs everywhere but, hey that's just me.

But I think the thing which really "blocks" me from playing it is that I know how the game ends. Or more likely, how it DOESN'T have a satisfying ending, and may not have one ever.

TL;DR: I loved HR, but I can't seem to get into MD. Should I try to "push" through? Am I missing something? Is the game going to get better?

    Thanks for your attention.

Is DX: The Fall worth playing for the story if I already have it anyway?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 06:28 AM PDT

    Hi!

I've played DX1, Invisible War and Human Revolution so far and I enjoyed all of them, even IW to an extent - which may be important to mention, because a lot of people were telling me to skip it, but I still kinda had fun and I'm glad I didn't listen, even if it didn't measure up to the first game.

(You can read my in-depth thoughts about the games here, if you're interested in the opinion of a newcomer to the series:

    DX1: https://www.reddit.com/r/Deusex/comments/cc1xyn/my_thoughts_after_a_firsttime_playthrough_of_the/

    IW: https://www.reddit.com/r/Deusex/comments/eb5rsk/invisible_war_my_indepth_thoughts_after_the_first/

The topic for HR is in progress)

But The Fall has "overwhelmingly negative" reviews on Steam, so I wanted to ask: is it worth it to even try it? I'm not paying additional for it, because it came with the bundle on sale anyway. I'm not looking for challenging gameplay, because I understand it's a mobile port, but are the characters any good, or does the story bring anything interesting to the table that would help me appreciate the other games more?

    Thanks in advance

Should I knockout people or leave them be for max xp?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 03:26 AM PDT

Although I've played MD before, I never beat it and it's been a long while. I remember you get xp for everything you do though like finding vents or hacking something, knocking people out or killing them. I'm trying to do a stealth run and I'm not sure if I should be knocking everyone out for decent xp or never get discovered. Which gives the better xp? I imagine knocking people out has the pro of the enemies having items to take so idk. Any tips would be appreciated!
