Hello everyone and welcome to the monthly /r/DeusEx community thread!

This is a place to chill whenever you like, post feedback, ask questions that you don't think warrant a new thread, or just get that burning DX1 meme out of your system. It is okay to go off-topic, however other rules still apply - please be nice to the other users and use a spoiler tag if needed.

Question of the Month: Happy New Year, folks! Only 7 more years to Human Revolution! Do you have any plans for the upcoming year?

    Trying to playing Deus Ex

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:19 PM PST

Hey! Recently got Deus Ex GOTY on Steam since I got a gaming laptop recently and been wanting to playing Deus Ex and Invisible War.

My issue is that when I am playing Deus Ex, it's wayyyy too dark. I've messed with the brightness settings in game and my laptop and I can't see jack shit. Running it vanilla, with no patches to run it in a better resolution. Any help?🤷

Deus Ex: Invisible war. Are the endings getting better with age?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:17 PM PST

I don't want to sound crazy but hear me out. Back when I had finished playing DE:IW I remember going to forums (steam forums) and noticing that a lot of people thought the endings were complete nonsense... However now, to me, they look, more realistic than ever.

For the Omar ending we have the threat of climate change. Animals are dying in a lot of places and some can't reproduce due to heat. Australia is quite literally on fire. The ice caps are melting faster than they are freezing overtime. Corals are dying etc.

For the iluminaty ending we have countries like china with citizen credit scores, required facial recognition with the government for citizens. Companies all arround the world buy and share private information. Governments (albeit this is not new) have become more invasive with the spying of their citizens due to technological advances.

For the jc denton ending... Albeit some people (who generaly don't understand technology) believe we can't get to the level of an independent AI which is smarter than humans, many in the field of AI believe, otherwise.

Honestly I might just be crazy and saying nonsense but if I had to chose I would go with AI.

The Deus Ex remake is cancelled for now.

I've redone JC about 4 times and he still looks like a burn victim. I'm gonna work on my own games and raise my graphic arts skills from TRAINED to MASTER. It will be 3 years till I get back to this.

Oh and I'm calling this remake Dystop Ex and changing the cast's names example: JC Epstein, Tracer Dong. Copyright infringement ain't got shit on me.

I never understood why people shipped Jensen and Pritchard??

Hi, welcome to my ted talk. To preface: this isn't just gonna be waah waah wah adam big strong man he has to be straight!! (although Pritchard has an anime girl on his office wall that's basically a straight pride flag), this is me genuinely being unable to wrap my head around how anybody could look at their relationship and construct anything romantic out of it.

I come from a lot of other blue colored social media platforms where people put a lot more emphasis on shipping and whatnot, so I saw a lot of it and even if I didn't personally agree, could understand the foundation or thought process behind a pairing. But this alludes me. Adam and Pritchard don't exactly hate each other, I won't argue that, but their relationship is definitely strained in a way. They're initially forced to rely on the other and we're shown in HR and the MD dlc that it from there a begrudging respect and/or interest in the others well being is formed. To say that is as straightforward as it is and that their relationship is a good one is a goddamn farce though. I bring in my examples from Black Light to elaborate.

    https://preview.redd.it/41ymervgm0841.jpg?width=568&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b12891c003633ce328b20c402043c182c27f7eb

This quote refers to Adam just doing just what the narration describes: manipulating Pritchard into helping him do something the other man is very reluctant to do. This is already after Pritchard had gone far out of his way to help Adam, which isn't to say that Adam didn't appreciate it, but he obviously has no qualms pulling the right strings to make Pritchard do what he wants if he's personally convinced they won't be in any great danger. On the other hand:

    https://preview.redd.it/yf28fhatm0841.jpg?width=635&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1473e72c6c6ba1cc4cfcf2188b45288582cb7277

Pritchard gets a reputation for being "brutally honest", and I think it's obvious he knows that's how people take his jabs, and that's how Adam takes what he says. So he doesn't care if he says things like "you were never good for her", ignoring that his relationship with Megan unhealthy in the end for a lot of reasons on both of their parts, not just Adam's. And he probably knows Adam will take these things to heart, given that it's being given under the guise of "brutal honesty".

These are obviously just two examples, too. I'm sure if I wanted to I could comb through their interactions across different media and point out in greater summary how every one step towards civility, they take two steps towards being huge dickwads to each other. Which is ultimately why the ship bothers me, it's fun that they're dicks who have to rely on each other and eventually grow a weird bond, despite still being dicks. Making it romantic just kind of kills that for me. But, any thoughts?? Rebuttals? Obviously I could give options for who I think make a better pairing with Adam but I'm not sure this is the audience for it lol.
