A good game is a game that makes you question your morals (thoughts after my first playthrough)

As a bit of a backstory, I bought the Deus ex games right after I finished playing Prey 2017 a few months ago. I was told at the time that those games were quite similar, but I put off playing Deus Ex in favour of Dishonored.

When I finally got to DEHR, I struggled to get into it at first. The yellow filter bothered me more than it should have, and it took me ages to figure out how to aim with my weapons while taking cover. But then the open world and social interraction (with dialogue options, which I wasn't expecting) happened, and I fell in love with the game.

Cut to 40 something hours later, and here I am, standing in a room with 4 buttons, having to decide the fate of humanity.

It should have been a no brainer really. I didn't stop to think twice when I was blowing up Talos 1 (in Prey). In the earlier levels of Panchea, I had already decided I would expose the truth about the illuminati and let some competent authorities (like Interpol) deal with it. But then I thought back to the Talion A.D. quest, and what unregulated augmentations did to people, and suddenly the choice wasn't so clear cut anymore.

On one hand, I could do what was objectively moral, or I could follow through with what I believe in, knowing full well that safety would come at the price of freedom for augmented people.

I went with the latter, but I'm not 100% happy with my choice. To me, this highlights that despite all its flaws, DEHR raises some very interesting questions about humanity and the price of progress.

This game takes a different approach to morality than similar games in this genre like Prey or Bioshock. And I think one of the major elements that makes it work is the social interraction part of the game. By talking to NPC's, the world of Deus Ex felt populated and tangible, which in term only made the decision in the final room even harder.

Any interest for an upcoming mod I might make?

Been thinking of creating a mod based on the story of a UNATCO trooper who learns who he's working for and fights back. You take his perspective as MIB agents try to recruit you into mj12, attempt to assasinate you and chasing you around abandoned water parks and subway stations.

Like other games with branching path in story that depends on your actions, does Deux Ex GOTY penalizes you for killing too much NSF terrorists?

I remember Sam Carter told me something like "We don't another body bags lying around" or something about it and he reward something differently because I choose to Assault the Warehouse District with the secret generator on it also half of the time stealthily sneaking inside that place.

To me it's really impressive for a game since 2000 that has multiple ways for you to approach every missions and similar to my favorite game Metal Gear Solid The Phantom Pain.

Does Mankind Divided have a mod like Burger Menu that HR uses?

    Posted: 16 Jul 2021 05:31 AM PDT

I've played both of these games a lot and love them. Recently both both on the Steam Summer Sale. I have the burger menu on HR and its nice to have a bunch of augments and feel like I'm doing a New Game+. I can't really find anything like that for Mankind Divided tho.

Edit: Answer has been given. I got what I need.
