its sad there was SO much Mankind Divided hating Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:39 AM PDT cus of this, instead of making new Deus Ex games, Eidos Montreal basically sub-Crystal Dynamic now. making Tomb Raider sequel, then helping with Avengers and now making generic Avengers spinoff - Guardians of Galaxy... thank you all Mankind Divided haters. great thanks to all of you p.s. yeah, MD had some problems, but i think it doesnt deserve THAT MUCH amount of hating that it recieved. MD was such a good start of series DE games, connected with one big(thats why main story in MD lacking) storyline... shame(( [link] [comments]
I miss Deus Ex. I started a fanfiction a while ago but the work and scope got too much Posted: 15 Jun 2021 04:27 AM PDT I'm pretty unpredictable when i'm close to sleep. Close to the unconsciousness which consumes us all. You know maybe it's a bit like, how there's that random chance any of us can die in our sleep. Maybe that plays a part in me reaching out at this hour of night. So the essence of the fanfiction was i wanted to re-write all the deus ex games to make them connect better with each-other and improve the plot and characters. And help take away the setting disconnect between the prequels and the original (huge advanced city on a city in china in human revolution for example). Even though i like all the deus ex games, though i haven't played mankind divided yet. I feel they could be improved. The first Deus Ex has some really interesting themes and concepts they explore, but the storyline is a little cheesy and the characters aren't that developed or realistic. Human revolution took the setting way too advanced for the era, and focused the themes too much on augmentation while the original explored various ones. The villains of both games weren't that good. Imagine, we take the strengths from the games and get rid of the weaknesses, while also improving the whole franchise. How amazing does that sound. And i believe it is possible. As a fanfiction writer i want to believe it is possible. And it is hard to do this, it's a lot of work, and the games all do have good writing, plus the interactive choices. But i believe, or believed, it was possible. My dream is for someone to say something like this "Play these games, then read this fanfic story afterwards. It tells the same story and characters in more depth and expands on the themes" That would be my dream for any of my fanfictions. There's so many more themes and topics we could expand upon in the story. Make it the ultimate piece of cyberpunk storytelling. The ultimate cyberpunk setting. Or one of the best. And here comes the controversial part as always. To go from either no support or some support to lots of support against me, or still maybe no response if no one comments about it. How are you going to accomplish this huge task set before you. How. How are you going to re-write the games story and characters without using a lot of the dialogue? Because a lot of the games are well written. They usually are in the dialogue. But yeah it does kinda feel a bit right now like what's the point. I guess the point is i want to tweak a lot of it to fit better, to sound better. Just generally improve the writing. And further into the story there will be so so much original writing concerning the story and characters. All the characters being fleshed out and the plot changing direction. But because the beginning part of the story uses a lot of the same dialogue then i'll get jumped on by everyone and plagiarism will be shouted. They're right, it is. But as i have said before, to the sound of disagreement. I fully believe in what is best for the story. What is best for the story? This is it. Instead of re-writing the stuff rather than plagiarizing some. Because what if my original material replacing that needed part is worse. It could be better, sure, but it could be worse, and that other part is fine to use. Why waste it. Why waste it. It's all for the betterment of the story. I'm not trying to make money and i'm not trying to get famous, it would be so clear that a lot of dialogue is copied from the game. It's all for the betterment of the story, characters, setting. And eventually there would be so much original writing, exponentially so as you go through the story because it would exponentially branch off because of the changes. But it's always the start of the story that would turn people off in concept. What can i do. Re-write the same part when the other part would do fine? It's just a waste. What am i to do. Maybe some kind of experimental method in fanfiction. There hasn't been much experimentation from what ive seen in this medium. You know what i said about my ambitions for this story, and it's like that for so many franchises. Like imagine those games that are not that well-written but are at least interesting, and then in fanfiction you can flesh that out so much. The experimental method. There's various ones really, and i have thought about them all and nothing seems to really stick. Like maybe i could record gameplay of the character in-game kind of like a roleplay type situation, and have various footages interspersed with writing passages. I don't know. The Deus Ex games were ambitious in what they wanted to tell us. Shouldn't we be the same? The singularity has always been interesting to me. That point at which humans merge with each-other to create a new kind of consciousness or computer consciousness. I was thinking that perhaps we could do a smaller scale of that. Because i often wanted when creating my fanfictions to have input from the community, because they know so many things, and have their own perspectives and thoughts and feelings of various aspects of the game or show. They could help me create this story, and i would help to craft it. Because i have my own biases and flaws, and my creativity would be trumped by an entire community. But i believe i would be a good guiding hand. The potential of a large group of fans working together i think is amazing. But for a fanfiction writer like me, i don't have any following. I don't think i ever will. I think my writing isn't good enough. But what i am good at, i believe. What i excel at, is the story aspect. The guiding aspect. The story ideas. The perfect way to say it is, you know on a movie when sometimes it goes like "Story by" and "Written by" two separate positions. I am the story guy. That's me. At least, this is what i think. Am i right or wrong i don't know. Maybe i put myself down too much, don't have enough faith in my writing. But i don't know. I don't do description in my writing. I think that goes more towards i'm a story person. But i guess this also lends well to fanfiction since you often don't have to describe things because it's all there in your memory from the game. I don't know. And imagine. This huge work of Deus Ex fanfiction. Another beauty of it is, it can always be edited. To be better. Any grammar or logical mistakes can be corrected at any time for any length of history. Wheres when you publish a book the corrections will be rare, mostly in grammar. And a game it's the same really. But we're more ambitious in fanfiction. We CAN correct any plotholes whatsoever. There will eventually be no plot holes in our work. Isn't that amazing that we can do that. It's a solid advantage over traditional media. And not just correcting we can do. We can add things let's say from suggestions of critiques or reviews that address some flaws or problems. We can increase and refine character development, story ideas, and the writing and description itself of the story. We can continue to keep the characterization and dialogue consistent. The potential is amazing. Imagine if popular fanfiction authors did this. But the years have gone on. Maybe i have to give up this dream of a collaboration. Too ambitious. Because there are problems too. Because there will be subjective things that people will agree or disagree over of things being in the story. Scenes and dialogue and all that. I don't really know what to do. I want to write about cyberpunk. About problems we face in the future of our society, and transpose them onto Deus Ex. I could do an original story. But i want to write Deus Ex. I want to do what i described before, about improving everything. For us. For the story. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jun 2021 03:54 AM PDT Been playing Deus Ex 1 for the first time and loving it, but I'm starting to get sick of the performance issues which I would not expect from such an old game. Most of the time the game runs fine but sometimes it drops down to 5-20 fps which is horrible. I have Kentie's launcher. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
