Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:12 PM PST I finally decided to play the first Deus Ex, so i downloaded Kentie's Launcher with the Direct 3D 10 renderer for the Vanilla Experience. The only problem now is that Deus Ex starts permanently in windowed mode without me being able to switch to fullscreen, although I explicitly selected fullscreen in Kenties Launcher. And when I select Borderless, the game starts with a black screen (but working game sound in the background) Whats wrong here? Using W10 [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:13 PM PST Been about 2 years since I last played thru the first Deus Ex and many of its mods - any really awesome new stuff in that time span? I played through 3 or 4 of the major custom campaigns. I can't remember names right now, but I remember them. May play thru one or two, but is there anything worth checking out from 2018/2019 to now? Mankind Divided final thoughts. Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:27 PM PST Just beat this game and I have a few thoughts about the plot and various ideas people have produced on the fandom and reddit about it. There is one plot point where you can either decide to save a womans life or end it (Allison Stanek) or investigate a versalife vault. My version of Adam has always tried to embrace his humanity and if the choice was between an individuals life or exposition for the plot he always chose to save someone. I think "embrace what you've become" means a lot more then just accepting his augmentations, he's still a person, and none of his humanity has left him, he just has better tools to deal with problems now. Adam shows his humanity a lot more in MD then he did in HR, as he is faced with several choices to either end a life or save it, and I always went with saving a life rather than taking it. Even fighting the police he ruthlessly takes them out with augmentations in the trailer instead of using ammunition, not because he is a terrorist, but he has a strong sense of right and wrong, he literally cannot stand for that kind of oppression. This all brings us to the clone theory. apparently if I chose to do the bank heist instead of saving Allison Stanek I would have been able to see a versalife vault with an Adam Jensen looking torso missing its arms and legs, which would imply that either the original Adam had died, and somehow had is memories transferred to a clone, or that attempts to clone Adam, as an augmented person were made. Sarif survived Panachaea, so I do not believe Adam didn't as well. I think that after Panachea Dr. Orlov installed the mystery augs (the same ones he installed on the shadow operatives and Daria Myska) and maybe removed Adam's Sarif augs due to damage, yet I feel like he is still the same person, and the versalife vault Adam is just some kind of easter egg, because there is not enough exposition involving it to make a real story, besides 1 line from Sarif "the augs I installed in Adam Jensen had serial numbers, your's don't" which doesn't prove anything other then the fact that all Adams augs were replaced or Sarif is just an AI program because you never meet him in MD. Adam has a change of character between games, he no longer remarks in disdain that "I never asked for this" but instead says he has embraced what he has become, showing that he is more comfortable as a person then he has ever been, and his augmentations do not define him, they augment him. At the very end of the final endgame cutscene it shows Delara Auzanne, the psychologist, communicating with Papa Illuminati (don't know who the guy is) and she states that "the subject" is operating within all the standard protocols, to which Mr. Illuminati replies with something along the lines of "its only a matter of time before he finds Janus". A lot of people have speculated that Adam has some kind of override installed that would make him kill Janus, but I don't think there is enough information to confirm this, ingame one of the agents with tf-29 will randomly remark that he picked up a signal of someone sniffing Adams commlink, and if you talk to him again he will claim it has went away but he was sure he picked up some interference. What I believe is going on is that the Illuminati had some kind of near untraceable tracker installed into Adam in Alaska by Dr. Orlov and that they plan to use him to locate Janus and put a face to the name, they may not even want him dead as he could be another Illuminati asset. Or they simply plan to ask him (Adam) for the information (either directly or indirectly) once he has acquired it, as they are unable to diagnose his mental condition from a remote location and must rely on Dr. Auzanne, which would imply that they do not have a direct link to his thoughts. I feel like they have little to no control over Adam other then pointing him to something and then observing his reaction. he is never without a choice ingame, and to imagine that he could be put in that position (his augments overriding his humanity) is absurd, he proves the entire game that he is fully in control of his choices. Moving on to Adams love life.......It has went from tragic, to wretchedly tragic. in HR he had Megan, who basically used him then dumped him and developed the entire plot of the game behind his back, while he cared for her, she only cared for what he could do for her work. in MD my version of Adam had 2 potential romantic interests that I could see, Aria Argento, and Daria Myska, and both end tragically, aria gets let on as an active operative, and although all your conversations up to that point build on a relationship, when Adam hears she asked to be on Maccready's team, he is done talking to her, and it's clear that any thoughts of a relationship are shattered. with Daria Myska, when Adam gets to the point where he can really get to know her she reveals that she doesn't even know who she is, shes a serial killer, and there is no place for a romance, because Adams choices at that point are either send her to jail or murder her. He has a relationship with Alejandra Vega, but it is obviously strictly business. I thought i had bad luck with women, but i don't envy Adam. I feel like all of this just goes to teach Adam the one thing this series has always pushed.....you can't trust anyone, no matter how close they are to you. but at the end there are still some people i think Adam does trust, namely David Sarif, and Allison Stanek, and Daria Myska, and whether they are lying or not he still believes them. He hasn't become less human, he's became more human than ever. what did you think about the conclusion of the game? [link] [comments]
Prague building numbers (pedantic post alert!) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 02:36 PM PST OK, I'm sure this has been done to death, but WTF is going on with the building numbers in Prague?! I'm trying to draw a map that is marginally easier for me to get my head around than the "official" one (because I have difficulty rotating images in my head) and in any case, the official one doesn't actually label the buildings with anything other than significant locations [in passing, one might argue that this map also contains lots of spoilers!] And the northern section is large enough that I was getting lost. So I thought I'd try labelling the buildings with the numbers they have on them. Mostly the numbering makes some vague sense; when there's a street you get odds on one side and evens on the other. And within, say, the northern region, there are mostly no repeated numbers - you can find almost everything from 02 - 96, not sequential but generally in coherent blocks. And then you get Hlavni. It starts off OK at the Bridge, with #20, and in theory it runs around in an anti-clockwise circuit until you get back to the Bridge. Except... opposite #29 (Rose's Garden) is a massive building numbered #90 (Acronym) and, bizarrely, on the "odd" side of the street there is a #30 (which probably ought to be the Acronym building) and a restaurant that doesn't have a number at all (the sequence runs #29 - Rose Garden, #30 - Mercier shoe shop, "restaurant", #31 clothes shop, #33 big apartment block.) Meanwhile, across the street we have #34 (a food shop) and #32 which are the wrong way around (oh, and when you carry on, you find a building numbered #34 again!) and the other oddity of #92 (the Tubestation shop) which is located opposite the Magic shop. The odd numbers carry on fine in the square around Palisade station and past the Magic shop (although #53 is missing) until you get all the way around to the run up to Monument station where you get the glorious sequence #61, #65, #67, #73, #71 and #69 in that order... And across from them is #42 (the Cleaning supplies), then a huge building without a number (but which contains someone's apartment I think) and then #44 (so the middle building couldn't really have a number!) Oh, and of course there's that lovely weirdness in the Market Square by the Palisade bank, where a building with #34 on it has a huge "32" in its window; #32 is actually Ludovico's coffee shop next door.) (I will note that I have done the same with the southern section, which has some equally weird numbering but it's a lot smaller so doesn't feel quite so egregious.) I know this is deeply nerdy and pedantic but honestly, it's hard enough finding your way around Prague in this game at the best of times without this sort of thing. :-) Plus, there aren't many games where I actually wanted to do this... Mankind Divided - Poor performance on new RTX 3070...? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:57 AM PST Hi, thanks for clicking my post. I bought a new desktop PC quite recently, quite powerful. Not the flagship specs but good performance. GPU: RTX 3070 CPU: 6 core / 12 threads RAM: 32 GB 3200 MHz Display: 3440x1440 Obviously I maxed the settings in the game considering the game's release date and my new PC's specs. But I only average around 65 FPS with settings maxed and anti-aliasing off. I've systematically gone through the graphics settings and turned each setting off and on to see any FPS improvement. In between each off / on I've run the game's benchmark. But, nothing changes the FPS other than the mentioned anti-aliasing. It is surprising to me that I'm not getting more FPS. I purchased Hitman 3 and ran its benchmark and I get around 65 FPS average there too and that game is much newer and looks better in my opinion. The other game I have installed is Dota 2 and that game's FPS is through the roof of course, so I don't think it's my CPU that's bottlenecking anything. Any ideas what I should try? Thanks for any help, much appreciated. Regards / beatspores [link] [comments]
