Playing Mankind Divided for the first time - totally underrated Posted: 12 Mar 2020 08:40 PM PDT Hey, After not knowing what to play recently, I decided to dig into my unplayed pile and arrived on this. I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience so far! I shouldn't be so surprised (as I enjoy these styles of games) but I'm kind of kicking myself for not trying it earlier. Thus far I've only just arrived in Prague, but the style of play and game mechanics totally suit my play type. Deus Ex, the original, is actually my favourite game. I played that to death on PC when I was younger. The mixing RPG elements with FPS was extremely appealing. Exploration, customisation, theme and story really blew me away at the time - just the amount of voice-work alone floored me. I loved experimenting with different options and traversing the envorment, trying to uncover as much as I could. I'm getting a similar feeling from this game. I'm a pretty methodical gamer and don't mind taking my time. I actually played and enjoyed Human Revolution, along with other games of it's ilk like Dishonred and Prey. For some reason this game slipped through the cracks. It doesn't help that it's largely neglected by the greater gaming public either. The game mechanics really lead to trying different things. I like the way it rewards exploration too. Like scouring a room to find all the items, only to knock a bucket and discover a credit chip below. Love that kind of thing. I also like the emergent moments this creates. Here's an example: I was trying to work out how to get to a building roof after noticing there was an air-vent I could enter. It was too high though. I got to thinking I might be able to stack some items to use as platform. Trouble is I'd need to get them atop an archway. I went into the alley and collected some barrels and boxes. After some experimenting, I finally got the trajectory right and was able to land them where I wanted. I ascended and stacked them as well as I could. Haphazardly perched atop, I made a test jump - I should be high enough now. I aimed towards the ledge as I jumped this time, but my movement displaced the items below and they went raining down off the archway. The barrel ended up falling and hitting a patrolling police-officer. They promptly told me to stop doing that or I'd be in trouble. How cool - not only that you could attempt something like that (I eventually succeeded by the way), but when it failed it also created something new. I know it's nothing big, but I really liked that kind of thing. Makes me more excited to see what unexpected things may happen in the future. I know this game has its fair share of detractors, especially in comparison to the earlier games, but I'm personally enjoying the experience more than I ever expected to. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Mar 2020 04:45 PM PDT Im writing this post as someone who bought Invisible War a few years ago now, but never got around to playing it until recently. I started and I think it might be my new favourite. Now the gameplay is objectively not as good as either the original or the prequels, but I really love the world and the art style. I really wish we could see more of that world in future deus ex games, although I know that wont happen. Just wanted to show some appreciation to Invisible War! [link] [comments]

SOCIETY: Party Against Tomorrow Posted: 12 Mar 2020 03:41 PM PDT As the rich flee the city in droves by car and -- horror of horrors, bus (needs must when the devil drives and the airports are closed) -- the rest of us are left to wallow in the empty crypt that has become our city. The sick and homeless shamble about as if they just left a casting call for "Night of the Living Dead," and the cops obviously came from next door where they're filming a classic 1990's Michael Bay action flick. Really, the whole thing is too much. And what does Kwesi recommend when it gets to be too much? Why party, of course! It's not with historical precedent, children. Those of you without zyme-addled attention spans may remember Boccacio's classic Decameron (and that's Boccacio the 14th century writer, and not Boccacio the jungle-thud DJ tripmaster), where a bunch of young, hottie Florentines decided to flee another one of these boring little plagues and hole up with a few too many bottles of wine, tell outrageous stories, and have a go at each other once in a while. So, speaking only for Kwesi, I'm going to invite over about 80 of my nearest and dearest -- soon to be nearer and dearer -- with all the food and recreational drugs they can carry, then lock the doors. Good night, children! [link] [comments]
