Anyone know why some songs on the Deus Ex GOTY CD are remixed?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 10:05 PM PDT

I don't mind the remixes I think they sound awesome, but it did strike me as a bit weird as to why they were like that, the songs I'm talking about if you don't know, are Main Title, Liberty Island, UNATCO, Battery Park, NYC Streets, Lebedev's Airfield, Enemy Within, and Ending 1 too for some reason, the other tracks only differences are mainly just lower quality and some extra treble

Which games are most similar to the original Deus Ex (2000)?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 05:28 PM PDT

I'm especially referring to 1.) the subject matter, and how closely it tracks with real world events (while also indulging some conspiracy theories, and 2.) the fact that most of your choices had clear ramifications, and helped shape your gameplay.

The original Deus Ex is perhaps the greatest game I've ever played; the engrossing story, political/philosophical content, and wide-ranging ramifications of each decision made captivate me to this day. It was also the perfect blend of "open world" and linear; plenty of side quests, but not too overwhelming, and not so linear that you feel straight-jacketed.

While I very much enjoyed Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it was a bit more "on-rails"/linear than the original Deus Ex, and the philosophical content was focused more specifically on human augmentation, rather than the more expansive themes the original DX tackled.

With all this in mind: in your opinion, which games come closest to feeling like the original Deus Ex?

Which places would you want to visit in a new Deus Ex Game?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 07:12 AM PDT

I think we're all a little bit deprivated of Deus Ex Content right now so maybe this will help us to pass some time:

If they announced a new Deus Ex Game, which places would you love to explore? For me, half the fun of playing Deus Ex is exploring the locations the games throw you into so I am always interested to see where I have to go next.
As much as I loved Prague in MD I kinda missed a little trip to Asia since Hengsha in HR and Hong Kong in DX1 where such great places to immerse yourself in. Maybe it would be great to see something outside of China (I mean HK is pretty much annexed by China at this point, let's face it), so... Maybe sth in Japan? Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya sth like that? Japan is struggling a lot with societal problems and I wonder what an impact that would have in a dystopian future. South Korea or Vietnam would probably also be great places to visit. SK because of it's problematic twin up north and because it is currently living through a golden age economically and Vietnam because it's on the brink of becoming the west's "Next China", with a lot of industry moving there right now and because of it's authoritarian regime.

Also missed traveling around an american City in MD, since New York contributed so much to the atmosphere of DX1. Detroit was cool too but I defenitely prefer NY. I guess sth in California would make sense as a location storywise knowing how many Big-Tech Companies are located there. Maybe sth in Silicon Valley? San José?

When it comes to Europe I would just love to see sth in Germany (outside of Trier in IW which I found rather boring). Mostly because I am from there and it's always cool to see how foreign Media depicts your Country but also because I think there are some cool places to explore. Northrhine-Westfalia has a lot of Cities that are currently struggling to adapt to modern times because most of the economy there was based on coal and steel (Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, etc), so I wonder how the future of one of these cities would look, either as a tech utopia rising from the ashes of it's past like Detroit was in HR or as a dystopian hellhole much like New York in DX1. Maybe all of these cities will be one big "Ruhr-City" by then, plans for sth like this have existed for a long time in the real world after all. Then there are Hamburg and Berlin which certainly also have a lot of exploration potential.
Outside of Germany I guess London, Amsterdam or Madrid would be cool.

Then again there are continents we didn't visit in Deus Ex yet. I wonder how South-America would look like in the world of Deus Ex. Maybe Brazil is an interesting place to explore in particular because it's one of the worlds emerging economies and with everything going on there politically there is certainly enough conspiracy-material to unpack in a Deus Ex Game. I think Sao Paolo deserves it's shot to shine.
There was also this whole thing about Australia going into civil war and being split, you constantly read about in HR and MD. Would be great to see how it actually affected the country and how the people there are living with it.

TL;DR: Osaka, San José, Dortmund, Sao Paolo, Sidney(?)

As you can see there are too many places to choose from, and a lot didn't name, so... Which locations would you like to see? ...and why?

What is Jensen's canon approach to enemies: lethal or non-lethal? Stealth or combat?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 12:37 AM PDT

Ordinarily, I would defer to "It's an RPG, so whichever you want," but considering the Black Light novel is canon, by oneand a major part of the series, there's a big chunk of Adam's story that's left entirely out of our control.

    Too much information

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 05:07 AM PDT

There's too much going on in this first mission. I have access to too many powers and I know it's a timed mission so I feel really stressed out after five minutes. Any tips?

Deus Ex 1 GMDX mod: Do you recommend the last official version (9.0.3), the v10 community update, or the semi-official RSD release?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2021 12:52 AM PDT

Hey guys, I played DX1 way back unmoded, and now I want to replay it with GMDX (it seems to be near-consensus that it's the best remaster mod, though I did read a few criticisms by experienced players who had detailed arguments).

From what I can see, there are 3 versions, mentioned in the title. Now, what really appeals to me with GMDX is that it incorporates New Vision and HDTP, so those two plus all the positive changes GMDX has that I've read about should give me the "modernized experience" I want. However, I've read that v10 removes them, and instead they added their own graphics improvements (I think, it's not clear in the description moddb page). As for the RSD one, it's kind of hard to find much info/praises or criticisms about it. I'm not even sure where the official download location for that one is, but I know that some of the developers of the original one endorsed it.

So, to those of you more experienced, which of the three would you recommend to a Deus Ex modding newbie who just wants the most modern and polished experience of the game in 2021? Also, are there any other DX mods that work well with GMDX that you would recommend? Maybe some reshades?
