Reflecting on the tragedy of DX2 while waiting for a computer to play the 3rd one. Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:13 PM PST I've been thinking about how to describe what is not good about DX:HR. This inevitably becomes about what made DX1 stand out so much, and how HR was just such a normal video game for its day. I finally reached what I think is the decisive answer, the reason for disappointment. DX1 was the product of inductive reasoning using the summation of all of the best things about 90's fps shooters. In addition to this, it had a new dimension that everyone was craving for. HR was produced using deductive reasoning based on its prequel, of course, and how fps were generally being made then. It failed to see what made DX1 so good; map making, story telling, and the ability to explore. Instead of advancing these things further with current technology, they just made a typical video game with just enough things to feel like Deus Ex. If DX1 was built with deductive reasoning, and not the summation of everything good about video games, it wouldn't have been good. For example, why should a well paid mercenary/ private detective guy always be scavenging his supplies? Because that's what you did in fps video games; you searched for things. The reason why DX1 had all of these good qualities is because the people who made it were intimately familiar with the onset of FPS shooter games, what made them good, but also what people wished they were. They knew that a big part of FPS games was just the simple pleasure of exploring maps and searching for things, but also interacting with things in a weird, voyeuristic way. I think Eidos failed to see that the maps in DX 1 were small but good. They were like real environments, not mazes. HR probably would have been better with smaller but extremely detailed maps that you spent more time in, rather than the typical rat maze fps maps. More indoor maps like metro stations and offices probably would have been better. There would be more interactivity to advance the plot, but also randomness. I think they may have been concerned about making a cheesy RPG and stuck with military run-and-gun genre with all its effects. [link] [comments]
What went down with Gaming Heads' Adam Jensen statue? Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:38 AM PST I didn't see any picture or any seller of it. It's not available (not marked as sold out, completely vanished) on their website. Have anyone pre-ordered this? What went down, is it not being crafted and sold? More than 1.5 years have passed since they announced a shipment date. But I see literally nothing. I actually needed it in my life... [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:00 AM PST Ive been trying to use the Kenti launcher to upscale the game and the direct3d 10 rendering to make it look pretty and fix all the dark corners. Ive been running into this issue though where Direct3D 10 Rendering doesn't come up as an option. I only get Direct3D support. Usually I'd just go on and enjoy the game but the dark areas strain my eyes and make the game feel bad to play. I really want Direct3D 10 so I can play on 1920 x 1080 and choose the Original Lighting option in the preferences. The original lighting option doesn't come up in the Direct3D Support render settings. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help? [link] [comments] |
