Anyone else think Deus Ex Mankind Divided is underrated? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 11:22 AM PST Yeah I get that the story should have been longer but I feel people were too harsh on it and sadly it didn't sell well. There is a lot to like. MD is a very well done immersive sim, we don't get much of those anymore. Its just way more fun to explore Prague than your typical shallow open world city. The side quests are amazing with interesting choices and characters. The gameplay was improved as well and the story we got was actually intriguing. I don't get why something like God of War (great game btw) gets zero backlash for basically just being a prologue (the main story barely begins) and very limited while Deus Ex MD offers plenty of content yet is seen as a bad game I don't want to talk much about Cyberpunk since there is a separate thread but MD is honestly better but it just shows how hype is more important than quality [link] [comments]
I’m an old deus ex fan that only played the original, until now. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:37 PM PST I finally decided to give Human Revolution a try, I was skeptical because from the trailers it seemed to look nothing like DX1 but after starting it, I'm already in love. Level design, weapons, cover, enemy AI, story, and dialogue all live up to the original, if not surpass it. I'm so glad I gave it a shot and I'm very happy that this world didn't die after invisible war. Good job to the new devs [link] [comments]

Criminal past being amazing makes me even angrier Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:30 AM PST I have played mankind divided twice to completion And had fun with the game, when I reached the ending I felt so sad that it was obviously cut in half, after hearing people praise the dlc, I got a criminal past and was so mad that it was good. The dlc captures perfectly the feel of dx1 but with the quality of life improvements, it is so masterfully told with a brilliant level layout, I was searching that prison for hours and discovering new things, it reminds me alot of the level where you escape from majestic 12 in dx1, while the game doesn't commit as hard to conspiracies, the theme of Aug prisoners was really well made they conveyed that feel of being an outcast from society perfectly. When I finished it I was crushed, knowing that this gem of a game will never be finished, that square Enix intensionally murdered this amazing franchise for a mediocre avengers game, and it proves that eidos Montreal has insane amounts of talent [link] [comments]

Human Revolution DOESN'T have player choice! Here's why. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:06 PM PST I'm gonna be kind of incendiary with this post, but it genuinely baffles me that people defend Human Revolution as a game where you can "play how you want" when this is so blatantly untrue. It offers more choices than other AAA action games maybe, but compared to Deus Ex 1 it's an absolute joke! So with that in mind, here's a detailed breakdown of all the ways this game betrays player agency. Reason 1: Pacifism is the only kind of stealth Lethal takedowns alert all enemies with 25 meters, about the same amount of noise as a shotgun blast. Non-lethal takedowns are almost completely silent and give you way more XP. The only downside of non-lethal kills is that enemies can be woken up, but that's rarely an issue. So unless you're already in a firefight, there's never a reason to use the lethal version. That's not a minor nitpick. As someone who tried to play the game as a stealth assassin, I literally had to knock out my enemies first and then kill them while they were unconscious. And since there's no non-contextual melee attack, I had to waste precious ammo doing that. Headshots are instant kills, but only on unarmored opponents. Which is a polite way of saying that headshots are useless after the first few levels. Since enemies go alert near instantly, if you can't kill them in a single shot then your gun is functionally worthless for stealth. So I sure hope you didn't waste that silencer on an SMG! Tranq ammo on the other hand is quite powerful and widely available, so again there's no reason to use anything else. I find it hilarious that everybody I know who thinks this game has "tons of playstyles" played it the same way: pacifist stealth with a tranq gun. Because that's very clearly the way you're supposed to play and the game will punish you for trying anything else. Reason 2: unbalanced XP rewards Deus Ex 1's system was perfect for this: you get a set amount of XP for every objective you complete. It doesn't matter if you killed everyone in the room, ghosted your way around, or ran past everyone slapping your ass and howling like a baboon. The point is to let you complete objectives however you want. In Human Revolution, XP rewards are all over the place. There are rewards for knocking out enemies and rewards for ghosting through areas. But if you only knock out one guy and sneak around the rest, the game doesn't have a reward for that and you just screwed yourself out of a shit ton of XP. The same is true for anybody who uses lethal takedowns (see above) or doesn't hack every terminal. So even if I don't need to hack a terminal to complete the objective, I'm going to do it anyway just for the XP bonus. The whole appeal of Deus Ex 1 was that it let you invent your own playstyles. I can't believe the outright arrogance of the developers to think that they could account for EVERY playstyle that people were going to choose! Well, they couldn't. So if you decide to try something more unconventional, you can look forward to a shit ton of wasted XP. This choice outright punishes player creativity. Reason 3: no skills or playstyle distinctions The removal of weapon skills and other stats was a huge mistake, in my opinion. Gone are the days of specializing in a weapon style and actually building a playstyle around it. Pistols and SMGs are always going to be lackluster and useless for stealth, so there's no option to go John Wick on a MF. Melee weapons were removed outright to make room for the takedown system (thanks, I hate it!), so you can't do melee builds anymore. At least they included a silenced sniper rifle... if you buy the DLC! It's like a bad parody of modern game design. The perks only system isn't the worst thing in the world, but by the end of the game you'll have most of the perks anyway. In Deux Ex 1, I spent the entire game becoming the ultimate weapons specialist at the cost of everything else. In Human Revolution I was a stealthy, hacky, shooty armored guy with aug powers, and I had less XP than a lot of other players are going to. Since everyone can be everything, I'd argue that this isn't really an RPG anymore. It's Splinter Cell Conviction with a perk tree. TL;DR Human Revolution is a game with exactly 2 playstyles: pacifist stealth and lethal combat. Everything else you could do in Deus Ex 1 was either removed outright or heavily punished. By making one playstyle the definitive "right way to play," it fundamentally fails as a Deus Ex game. Even if it's an alright 3rd person action game in most other regards. [link] [comments]
Is anyone willing to help me with writing a script for the Dues Ex series? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:21 PM PST Hello friends I have written quite a lot of a large script where I want to look at why I think Deus Ex is considered such a classic and is re-playable, whereas the prequels do not have that effect. So I look into what makes the world in the first game feel so real, whereas it feels super contrived and smaller in the sequels. Of course there's nostalgia, but I argue it's a combination of many factors working together that led to the first game being held in high esteem, factors that are missing in the prequels. This is all for my YouTube channel. My argument is that despite the simply geometry of the levels, that the writing, in combination with the AI and well-written characters, story, come together to create a believable and ultimately, captivating world. I've written about 10 pages worth of obviously extremely indepth analysis and examples, but now need help finishing it all. I realise I can't do it on my own. There are of course many analyses of the games, but I haven't seen any that cover exactly the points I make. Unless of course those videos are smaller and I simply haven't come across them. But I will need help with crafting this video script or series of videos, before I can get into creating and editing the videos. If you can help with getting the footage, creating and editing the video/s, all the better. For anyone interested, we can chat a bit and if it still sounds like something you want to help with, I can give you access to the Google doc and we can go from there. [link] [comments]

Playing Side Missions in MD New Game+ Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:47 AM PST As the title indicates, I'm wondering if I need to (or should) play any of the side missions in a New Game+ run of Mankind Divided at the same difficulty. My main objective is to sprint through the main missions again but this time choosing harsher dialogue options and choosing M11 instead of M12 when it's time. What do you guys think? Thanks! Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:33 AM PST Deus Ex is probably my favourite game of all time. I have played it a dozen times and always find something new to do. However, I would give my left leg for the developers to release a remastered version with updated graphics. Everything else can stay the same, as it is awesome! [link] [comments] |
