Deus Ex 1 Remastered in Unity? What's the prospect? Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:16 PM PST I have only recently started playing through my first playthrough of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition, and while I've been having a lot of fun with it, the program can charitably be described as moody, at the best of times. And while I've certainly heard that the game was buggy & exploitable--even when it was first released--I feel it's started to really fall apart. Incidents including, but not limited to:
I know that there's some of the jank that lends the game some of its charm, and some glitches/bugs are almost completely accepted by the community as almost official design (such as the free Trained Pistol Skill rank, at the very beginning), but this is not a game I would call future-proof. And to be a bit more poignant, the themes & subtext of original Deus Ex is uncomfortably relevant today. I feel this is a game that NEEDS to be available to a broader audience, today. I feel that Deus Ex NEEDS a remake, or a remaster in a modern engine. Something that translates the gameplay, narrative, and writing of the original, into a new package that can be made conveniently available to modern audiences. And I am aware of Deus Ex Revision, and a number of total conversion mods, that remake it with a bunch of bells, whistles, and HD textures. But, that's not what I'm talking about. Those are fanmade mods, that have certainly had a lot of love, care, skill, and enthusiasm put into them. But they still require a lot of file fenagling, and understanding of the inner workings of the game already. I'm more looking for something that someone with no prior experience with Deus Ex can pick up, play, and learn from there. Comparable to Blood: Fresh Supply or System Shock: Enhanced Edition. You could consider it the... Nightdive treatment. So, what is the possibility/plausibility of remastering Deus Ex in a new, modern engine? My guess would be in Unity, for ease of use; or Unreal 4, for potential ease of translation (assuming the technical differences between them aren't too extreme). Given the sheer volume of mods made & available for Deus Ex, and how it was once successfully ported to the PS2, I'd assume that the assets are somewhat widely available to be reverse-engineered. Now, I realize that there are a few legal hurdles for a project like this. Between Eidos, Square Enix, and the matter of Ion Storm being defunct. This would require getting their interest, without stirring up their ire, and prompting a cease & desist. One potential idea would to be making a replica of Liberty Island, and/or the Training Sequence as a proof of concept, or demo. In the latter case, it having all the features would likely help. Then, with their permission, release the demo freely to the public, to get more people interested, and show that there's potential profit in this. Then, when they're satisfied, ask for the green light. So, what do you guys think? Maybe there's potential in this idea? Or is it too optimistic? [link] [comments]
So I finished DE:MD, is season pass worth it ? Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:10 PM PST I think its worthy sequel to human revolution, unfortunately it ends too soon, but otherwise I would say its great game. Its 15 EUR now..so I am not sure if to pull the plug or not. [link] [comments]

Mankind Divided crashes upon arrival after Dubai. Posted: 06 Dec 2020 04:15 AM PST I'm playing the game, no tech issues at all. FPS is 60, the computer isn't struggling, all going fine. Finish Dubai mission and during the arrival at the train station, it freezes and crashes after I reach the gate in the cutscene. I retried another two times, the second it crashed a couple of seconds earlier, and when I tried DircetX 12 it crashed somewhere in-between the two points but in the same scene. Anyone else run into this? Again, I even looked at the Task Manager and none of the lines had 100%. I'm not sure what must be causing the problem [link] [comments]
