The state of patience regarding people who keep saying Deus Ex is dead

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 02:04 PM PDT

Hello everyone, as much of you did today I was scrolling through the social media pages, reading peoples' comments and reactions on the 20th anniversary of Deus Ex, reading random people's comments on how they used to play the Original Deus Ex in their childhood on this day was very delightful and joyful, these positive thoughts during the current hard times are a really good push to make a person like me smile, especially if it's a person who loves Deus Ex like me, but unfortunately this wonderful atmosphere is ruined by a group of people who just... Ahhhh, what should I say? I can't really put my finger on the right word to describe those people, I stopped typing for a minute here to find a word with a closer meaning to what I'm trying to say, and the word I come up with is "ignorant", yes this should do enough for me, ignorant people who I find on every post, every reply, and NOT just today, I see this at least half a dozen times every month or so, people, please read some news before you talk about a certain topic, those people who keep spreading negative thoughts and news that has absolutely no solid ground to them - or rumours should I say -to those people I have something specific to say, people THE DEUS EX FRANCHISE IS NOT DEAD okay? The series is just put ON HOLD, please get it already, you don't understand the kind of frustration I have when I have to correct every false claim made by random folks on the internet regarding the current state of the series, first of all, The "BIG GUY" at Square Enix, aka Square Enix CEO, came out and said that the series is NOT in development lineup at the moment because they don't have enough resources + they are already having discussions regarding what to do with the NEXT INSTALLMENT OF IT, okay? that last part tells a lot if you think about it, and by the way if you're too lazy to go and look it up yourself, here's the link, that statement was said in 2017, almost ONE YEAR after Mankind Divided was released, one year of they let those Mankind Divided sales figures soaked in very well, so by that point they had a very good understanding of where the sales were going, you people not satisfied yet? OK don't worry I still got more things in my pocket to show, I ain't backing down:

    • So also about one year or so after that statement by the CEO was said, and exactly in May of 2018, Eidos-Montréal studio manager came out and said in an interview that Deus Ex is NOT dead, but we should not expect a new game in the near future, the opposite of some of those ignorants claim on a lot of posts I see on the internet, now that's a bold statement, but at same time it corroborates what the CEO said in 2017, still not convinced yet? Oh boy you're tough, but I still got couple other stuff down my pocket.

    • The following year to that statement by Eidos Montreal head of studio, and exactly in March of 2019 Square Enix renewed a Deus Ex trademark, now if this renewal proves anything, it sure does mean that there's interest in the series, but some might say they renewed it just to shelve it another 10 years or so, I am trying to be prepared for all sort of replies here, so OK, I see where you going with that, but hopefully these next two points will be able to convince you otherwise.

    • If the Deus Ex series was indeed dead it would have gone radio silent How? Well... Let's discuss another Eidos Montreal IP that had a recent release on the current generation of consoles (PS4 & XB one) and that's the most recent Thief game, that game released in 2014 or 2013 I believe and it didn't do well at all in terms of sales, some called it a financial failure, if you think Mankind Divided didn't do so well or sold poorly because it was a mess, then let me tell you, think again, because Thief was a HOT mess, now to make things much more clear and much more easy to understand, take a look at the social media accounts of Both Deus Ex and Thief, let's take a look at Twitter for example, now as of writing this line, the last tweet published by the official Deus Ex account was today (June 22nd 2020), last tweet that came out before today was on June 18th, and the one before it was on May 19th, so the Deus Ex social media accounts are very active despite the series condition, now let's take a look at Thief's Twitter account, when was the last tweet, well according to the moment I'm writing this line in, last tweet that came out was on February 9th 2018! And that was a retweet, What about the one before it, another RT on September 30th 2017!! The last actual tweet that came directly from Thief account was in November of 2014, that tells a lot by comparison, two different IPs run by the same studio that both had a hard time with their last iteration, I don't think a comment from me is needed here.

    • if you still somehow some way not convinced by any of the above, then don't worry I'm not giving up yet haha, if you been following the news surrounding the Deus Ex games this year, you'll notice there's been some official movement, and by that I mean from either Square Enix or Eidos-Montreal, in March of this year Eidos announced a charity sale on the Deus Ex games on Steam, where they'll donate all of the proceeds to some organizations in Canada, also a month later the new Deus Ex games released on GOG, and by that, the whole Deus Ex package is now available on GOG, both the old and new games, also last week, it was announced that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is available on Nvidia GeForce Now cloud gaming service! I know some people are not keen on that, but Eidos are trying to be accessible to as much players as they can, also from my point of view, releasing the games on different platforms shows that the sales figures have definitely improved a lot and who knows maybe a new game is being pre produced right, maybe they released the games to justify making a new one, and if you look at it, all of Square Enix west studios are focused on the marvel games at the moment, there's no news of a new Tomb Raider, new Just Cause, new Thief, new Soul Reaver, the Marvel deal didn't just hurt Deus Ex fans alone, it's most of the other Square Enix west fanbases out there.

Also if you look at the state of the market in the past few years, you'll see that Immersive sims in general all flopped, Look at Dishonored 2, Pray, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, these are all major examples, you can't push things down as you want, making games nowadays is expensive, every step must be expected in advance, a new announcement of a Deus Ex now would be extraterrestrial, but if you look at the current political atmosphere, it just more fitting that the Deus Ex series is on hold for now, and hopefully the release of Cyberpunk 2077 will generate more hype and interest in the cyberpunk genre as a whole and will give the chance for a new Deus Ex to be green-lit, but the Deus Ex series is never, and was never Dead, if you read this post and see any person online saying Deus Ex is dead please correct him, there are other clues that I didn't show in this post that prove franchise is still alive and well, sorry if my language was a bit explicit, especially during the first half of this post, I've been writing this for about 45 mins now, and was trying to find the proper words to describe my feelings, it just infuriates me to see someone saying Deus Ex is Dead. Deus Ex is Dead. At first I didn't really care about these comments, I know the truth behind this, because I've read official statements from the people responsible and taking care of this franchise and saw actions from them that back up their words, but as time went by I just couldn't take it, they kept coming and coming and I just had to write this whole thing to get it off my chest.

Edit: please people, before jumping to any conclusions on anything read about it first, do your own research and don't listen to what others may say to you, some people just love to spread misinformation.

    DX Optimization

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 10:27 PM PDT

So it's been maybe 2 years (?) since I was introduced to the series through DX: MD. At that point, I decided to check out the other games, buying both DX: Game of the Year Edition and DX: HR-Director's Cut (no IW yet since I'm still on the fence about it from what I've heard) on steam.

It was only recently that I decided to try playing the original, only for my frames to take a nose dive the moment I got to both the swimming section of the tutorial and then the electrical area with the Hazmat suit on Liberty Island.

Is there any way to optimize the game besides the in-game graphical options, or should I use the DX: Revision?

I'm playing though the whole series again. Started with human revolution director cut. When does mankind divided get good?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 09:46 PM PDT

Mankind divided imo is terrible it's my first time playing it. It's the little things that are bothering me. I'm playing on the easiest setting because it's fun for the story not the combat. And it's not playing around quick save has become a super power for me. Human revolution was better without the missing link put in. And mankind divided has the exact same issue. They make you powerful and take it away. I'm sick of that happening every game. Combat is different from human revolution. I'm starved for credits and augs. And they have a store for me to pay money to what unlock faster. Are you kidding me. Hopefully it gets better. Then just 2 more games left. Happy anniversary!

Help with Direct3D 10 renderer for first Deus Ex

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:28 PM PDT

Hi, I love the series and finished countless times Human Revolution and Mankind Divided and I just finished vanilla Deus Ex on Steam using kentie's launcher with OpenGL (I had "already" played at the first Deus Ex through the PS3, that lets you play at the PS2 version "Deus Ex: The Conspiracy" on the Playstation Network). So I wanted to try some mods and downloaded both GMDX and Revision, I know what they change and all that, I don't need any tips for that. All the others renderers run flawlessy, but OpenGL makes the game too light, while every other but DX 10 darken the game too much.

My problem is that the Direct3D 10 renderer makes my game run at unstable framerate of 12-24 fps at worst or 30-50 normally, I can reach 60 fps only when I look at the floor, the sky or directions where there are none or a very limited amount of assets (like looking at he sea or at the city in the distance while being at the extremeties of the dock at the start of the game) or in cutscenes. The mods already have the kentie launcher included, but even with the vanilla game I have the same problem when trying to launch it in dx10 with kentie's launcher. I tried reinstalling the game, the launcher, the renderer, libraries that I already had, I tried changing resolutions and graphic options, launching the game windowed or fullscreen and I looked online, but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem. I carefully followed the simple instructions for everything, I'm not new to modding and everything (assets, textures, etc.) works but the damn renderer and all its new fancy effects that it introduces. It's not that I can't play the mods with another renderer, but not knowing why it doesn't work is what really bugs me, especially since I'm not 100% sure, but it may have worked the very first time I launched the game, but I'm not sure which renderer I chose at the time so who knows.

So if anyone has any tips, suggestions, know some fixes or I'm just missing something very obvious that would be of great help. Thanks in advance.

My Specs (aren't the problem but still):

ALL my drivers and libraries are up to date

    Win 10

    i5-8600k

    gtx1070 8GB

    16GB RAM

How should I play it first?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 08:17 AM PDT

Sup people, I just grabbed Deus Ex (the first one) at GOG yesterday, and I never played it before so in order to get the best out of the experience I would like to know if I should play it as is first, or if I should install the revision mod that came with it right away. Thanks!
