Some help with the original game's mechanics? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:23 PM PDT Im getting into the origina, im back at the base and just got to the part about citrus soda, l but im finding a few aspects of it somewhat impenetrable. The first is the story/factions. Idk who these factions are or what they're about. I was incredibly confused when they revealed the main character's faction had an HQ about 3 feet from the terrorists after you take the statue back. Its all jargon so far, is it going to be explained later or is it all just context clues that are sprinkled throughout? Ive re-watched the intro convo about the plague about 4 times and I still have no idea what is going on. not sure if this was intentional. So far - Main character works with his brother for the American/ UN secret cyberpunk police who are letting the plague kill everyone, and the NSF are eco terrorists who dont like the government letting everyone die? The second is the stealth and overall gameplay/ combat. it feels super finnickey. It seems a total crapshoot if I will be detected by guards. sometimes Ill silently take out a guard and his ally in the next room will dash for the alarm out of nowhere. Even after adding accuracy and lazers, that crossbow still has trash accuracy. I find myself loading quicksaves over and over and over and it never seems obvious what I did wrong if I fail. (also, enemy turrets are set to attack their own allies by default, which is me, so I set it to attack enemies which are their allies? what the fuck) I remember I only beat the section outside the prisoner's by placing the mine i found by the alarm and stabbing a guard in the back. His buddy went running to the alarm and boom. The only reason I knew the guard would be alerted to his buddy being stabbed in the back without any indication or logic was because I had been savescumming the sequence for 5 minutes. It feels like a war of attrition. Im not usually terrible at stealth in games, Ive beat quite a few stealth games, but im also not usually a fan and would likely choose a different route, but Deus Ex seems to lean heavily in that direction based on how worthless the pistol is, and how the game seems to reward you for killing less, which even with the stealthy approach I failed to be able to do. "you killed a lot of people up there" oops. If y'all gave me more than 6 bolts and 4 charges for my stun gun maybe I would've killed less people! I find myself lugging around the GEP gun which was indisposable in the 1st level because otherwise the droids killed me while i hacked the door, but it takes my whole inventory, which has me feeling like I dont have any room for what I need, and what I need isn't abundantly clear x.x If this wasn't one of the most acclaimed games of all time Id have probobly just stopped playing and wrote it off as a poorly designed clusterfuck of half broken mechanics, but since it is lauded as the epitome of both storytelling and gameplay in immersive sims, I can't help but feel I am doing something wrong. I feel like once I get ahold of the mechanics and get further in the story, it'll click better, but so far I can't really tell what the game expects of me. Might quit and play thief if im gonna be stealthy, might as well be S T E A L T H Y [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Jun 2020 08:50 AM PDT Hey on windows 10 im having issues running the gog version. First I couldn't change the brightness which was necessary because it was way too dark to see at points, and found the answer was switching to OpenGL. Cool. So I switch, played, and closed the game. Black screen, had to hard turn off my PC with the power switch. ouch. I look it up and the only way to fix it is to switch back to DX10??? Are there fan patches or mods to fix this? Am I doing something wrong? Also as a first time player the default controls are really weird. Flashlight is f12, but its labelled as f12 unbinded in the bindings and scope is on bracket, but the mouse wheel throws your weapon. what the fuck [link] [comments]
