Is there any ideal story point where I should play the MD DLC?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 07:24 AM PDT

I'm finally playing MD for the first time and a while back I bought all the DLC (at least the three story expansions).

Is there a particular point in the main story when I can ideally start them? Should I wait to finish the main story completely before touching them?

I already kind of miss Prichard, and I hear there's a lot of him in the DLC.

Can one beat Deus Ex (2000) without use of the nanokey ring?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 10:08 PM PDT

The famous alginon run successfully completes Deus Ex without the use of any inventory items, weapons, skill points, or augs, on the hardest difficulty (realistic). I've completed such a run myself and am attempting the same ruleset on GMDX hardcore.

So here's a question that came to me: can Deus Ex be beaten without the use of the nanokey ring? It might seem like the obvious answer is "no" - there are moments like the escape from UNATCO where (at least in theory) you need to get a key to the exit in order to leave.

But it appears that every NPC in the game can open every door if the path that the game computes with them collides with the door, locked or unlocked. For example, here's how a player uses this behaviour to bypass the UNATCO door without getting the key (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hsh24FmYlNQ). As you can see, the explosive scares Anna off and she runs right into the door, opening it.

So the question becomes; can every INF/INF barrier that blocks access to an essential part of the mission be bypassed without its key, either using the above method or otherwise? Can anyone think of a counterexample where the above method wouldn't work (because of lack of NPCs or whatever) to bypass a door? There are ones I can think of that are hard but doable - for example, the door to the helipad on top of Everett's place - but can't think of impossible ones.

TIL: There's a 1989 sci-fi movie with an agency called "MJ-12" in it

    Posted: 16 May 2020 03:27 PM PDT

I was watching a "Best of the Worst" episode on YouTube where they talked about a film called Alien Seed. On the back of the box there's mention of "MJ-12, a secret government agency studying UFO's wants to kidnap Mary and control the child for their own purposes". I did a little googling and couldn't find anything about the connection of DeusEx's MJ-12 so I figured I'd post it here as a piece of trivia.

Are Augmentation Upgrade Canisters broken in Deus Ex GOTY?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 07:26 AM PDT

    Hey people,

I finally finished Deus Ex a few days ago. Naturally I started another playthrough to experience the game with more hindsight.

In my first playthrough I did not really understand augmentation upgrades, and used augmentations very rarely. Now that I have a better understanding of the mechanics, I try to collect upgrade canisters.

There comes the trouble: upgrade canisters simply don't work. To be more specific, when I interact with a medbot, select augmentations, although I have several canisters in my inventory (and in my belt), I do not get the option to upgrade any of the augmentations. The UI says "No Upgrade Canisters Available", although I definitely have them, in my inventory, in my belt, in my hand.

I searched a little on the web but I think this issue is not that common. I do have a vague memory of using them earlier in my first playthrough, but in later chapters they did not work then either.

Is there a known solution to this problem? Does Revision or else fix this issue?
