Completed First Playthrough of Deus Ex 1 GOTY! (spoilers at end) Posted: 08 Jul 2021 10:32 PM PDT I'm new to Deus Ex, and honestly haven't done many first person shooters, but saw an article talking about it being "the greatest game ever," and that it was like $2 on GOG, so I picked it up to try. WOW. From the beginning was very engaged by the freedom, the interactions, and the story. Took me quite a while to clear the first level, largely because I kept messing around with all the things I could do (commandeer a turret? Create a giant jumping puzzle to get somewhere?!?) The story hung together remarkably well, and felt eerily prescient (the Gray death followed the virus...corporations...AI...privacy...nature of man). I also thought the game was remarkably polished. Melee combat could be a bit clunky, and trying to kill those dang spider bots was annoying, but don't think I encountered a single exploit that the game did not anticipate, which I thought was amazing, especially for when it was released. Loved how so much story telling and choice was linked to actual gameplay, as opposed to cut scenes and scripts - like the moment on the plane, which I started messing around with, then later looked up and saw that it did, indeed change the way the story progressed. Honestly made me a bit sad for how games have developed - DX1 was cutting edge with choices that matter, interactable environments, etc., and it feels like a lot of that is missing from games now. I played on Realistic difficulty (I generally like taking the hardest difficulty when I play games because I feel it really forces me to learn the game). I generally tried for non-kill, although when I ran out of darts or started hitting the MJ troopers and MIBs I didn't hesitate much to use lethality. I spent a fair amount of time exploring, and clocked in just under 30 hours, and I was surprised a "shooter" was able to keep me engaged that long - quite a testament to the game. Maxed pistol and Low tech (used the nano-sword quite often), with strength and speed for maxed augs (although by end game had quite a few other upgrades). Chose Tracer Tong's path, just really didn't trust Helios, Everett, or Page, and thought the "total dark age" prediction was a bit unlikely. One funny thing that happened was I made JC's "real" name "T Aquinas" after Thomas Aquinas for...reasons. When people started talking about Aquinas protocol etc., I was super impressed by how much the game customized to what I typed in at the beginning. Then later I realized that that was just a total coincidence lol (other than a few emails or whatever). Anyway - thanks for reading! How are the other games in the series? Do they feel fairly similar, or change up the formula? [link] [comments]

A guide on how to dupe items (Including Augmentation upgrade canisters) Posted: 08 Jul 2021 11:41 PM PDT Well i was watching some speedruns while completing the game ( i think it was in ocean lab that i started watching speedruns and how they do it) and i noticed that they dupe items like multitools, lockpicks, medkits, biocells, candybars etc. How to dupe normal items (note you cant dupe weapon ammos, lams, grenades.) First you need to download the unpatched version i think its v7. it doesnt work on newest patchs Second you need to bind "Use object in world" to the scroll wheel How to dupe Augmentation upgrade canisters Sorry for my bad grammar [link] [comments]
Games with music similar to the OG Deus Ex? Posted: 08 Jul 2021 04:22 PM PDT Anyone know of any games with the amount of variety and energy you find in the OG Deus Ex's soundtrack? You know what I mean, just compare the music of the first game to the later games and you'll see the difference. Not saying one is better than the other, but to me, the first game's music is way more memorable and has a lot more variety... It doesn't HAVE to be from another videogame by the way, maybe an album or something like that... [link] [comments]
Deus Ex and Dishonored, or how to make a good stealth game [minor spoilers for both games] Posted: 08 Jul 2021 01:08 PM PDT So I've recently gotten into playing Deus Ex. I haven't finished human Revolution yet (probably because I'm doing every side quest there is) but I'd like to compare my experience playing Deus Ex with that of Dishonored. For the sake of clarity, assume I'm talking only about Dishonored 1 and DEHR. Both games hold a lot of similarities. There's the distopian atmosphere, the ex-cop/ex-guard protagonist, and of course there's the stealth mechanic. Very early on into playing Dishonored, I realised that the game wanted me to play the stealth and non-lethal route. It constantly punished me for killing NPC'S, by increasing the game difficulty and having other NPC'S reprimand me. Now that's a fair mechanic. I can see what the Devs were going for. Except - Except I couldn't upgrade my tranquilizer crossbow above the base 5 ammo. So once that is gone, I'm sorry Overseers, but I'm shooting you with regular bolts. Except the level design is built around alternative routes, oftentimes over rooftops. So mele knockouts are not really an option for my playstyle, bringing me back to the ammo limitation. Except as a first time player, I want to get on with the story, and re-play it the "proper" way once I'm done. But the game, through NPC dialogue, makes me feel like "I'm doing it wrong" and it's extremely annoying. Now compare that to Deus Ex. The game also tells me to prioritise stealth. That murder is bad, yada yada. But here's the one big difference; the rewards you get for playing stealth and non-lethal. First and foremost, there's the XP. You can get up to five times more of it if you knock out an enemy instead of killing them. Then there's a moral nuance in some levels. Some of the NPC's that will go after you are terrorists, street thugs, and augmented millitary. But there are also cops and security guards who were just "doing their jobs". Those are the ennemis I avoided killing because I felt bad for them. DEHR has two mechanics for a stealthy playthrough. Alternative pathways and augments. You can talk your way out of a lot of situations with the social enhancement upgrade. You can turn invisible and run past ennemies. Or you can crawl through litteraly every vent in Detroit for that sweet extra XP. TLDR: a good stealth game is one that makes me want to play in a stealthy manner and explore all the extra paths, not one that forces them down my throat with a bit of "murder bad" on top. Thanks for listening to my rant, I just had to get it off my chest. [link] [comments]
Unable to get different ending variations Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:45 AM PDT So I've known for a long time that the four endings are supposed to vary based on how you play. There's conflicting info on how the game determines it, but it's either lethality or side quest stuff. Maybe a mix of both. I know what the wiki says but based on my experience it either can't be true or my game's bugged out. So I've played this game for maybe six or seven times, most of them on director's cut and on my most recent run I was going for remaining achievements - I'm not hugely into collecting them so there was still a couple I was missing. To spice it up I tried to get a worse variation of the ending and killed absolutely everybody, barely touched any of the side stuff and yet I ended up with the "good variation" Just to be clear, I did do a couple of "good" actions -Paid Jaya's debt for Guardian angel -Gave the lethal dose of morphine for Kevorkian complex -Saved Malik because I'm not a monster Otherwise If I stumbled upon side stuff I tried my best to fuck it up or at least never finish it. Now at least half of these runs have been on NG+ so that could be a factor. If it is, then most likely the ending comes down to -Did you finish all of the side stuff on the original save Why I believe this is because my first playthrough on DC was a mix of lethal and non-lethal but I did absolutely everything. I'd like to hear if people were able to get the neutral or bad variations of the ending and how they did it. I do know I managed to get a neutral variation on my first ever playthrough of the original game. [link] [comments]
Anyone noticed the homeless person under Maggie Chows apartment? Posted: 08 Jul 2021 10:10 AM PDT Could just be from revision but Ive never noticed it until now. Never even knew there was a roof either [link] [comments] |
