Posted: 17 Sep 2020 09:04 PM PDT In normal mode, you have a lot of leeway to stand in front of enemies and get shot. You have time to respond before your health gets low. In hard mode, it's similar. There is less leeway and I assume better aim on the part of enemies, but overall it's easy to forget you're not playing on normal. Realistic is a little different. You have to avoid getting shot. You can be shot at a distance, but you do have to use cover when you can to control being shot at. Some enemies like commandoes are quite dangerous and need to be kept at a distance. In most respects the game isn't that different, you just have to use more cover and engage at a distance when possible, but there are a few spots you have to slow the heck down. For instance, level 3 of Area 51 has several hazards and weird angles. To spice it up, I chose to do a heavy weapons run with the flamethrower and plasma rifle. I also used the following restrictions:
This meant explosives were very hard to come by unless I happened to stumble across something useful. Overall it increased difficulty but not really fun. I just had to use a lot more lockpicks and LAMs. I trained up heavy weapons first and then scattered the rest around as usual. The plasma rifle was interesting, but I don't think it justifies its inventory usage. Ammo is too rare and the gun overall is very unreliable. It's also very irritating that it's ineffective against commandoes. It's literally better to use a pistol than this thing. It is a fun (although inferior) alternative to the sniper rifle due to the extremely slow projectile speed. Also, this weapon can kill you if you accidentally shoot a wall/ledge in front of you. Perhaps it's a little silly to suggest shooting a sniper rifle 2 feet in front of you won't injure you, but that doesn't happen. The flamethrower is very useful, but the range is bad (don't bother upgrading it) and of course the commandoes are immune to the primary damage inducing mechanism it has of setting you on fire. Very good for groups of enemies. One little squirt does it. Ammo is rare but sufficient especially if you search for it and pick up canisters when you can take close to 100 rounds. Also, the only thing skill does for the flamethrower is let you run faster holding it at advanced level. The damage and accuracy are completely irrelevant. For Area 51 I gave up on the useless upgraded plasma rifle and picked up a stock GEP gun. It's far more useful although there's little benefit to upgrading the skill. With the flamethrower, it's convenient to be able to move quickly with it, but you don't fire the GEP gun while moving anyway. For melee I used a crowbar. Initially to kill guys. Speaking of which, I think a realistic non lethal run sounds pretty miserable. Not interested! But I did think hard was pretty much a better normal. I also had limited tools for a few situations - Walton Simons, I actually fought with the crossbow because I didn't want to burn all my 10mm on him and the shotgun was barely hitting him at the distance/skill level present. He went invisible, I left him, and finished him with a GEP round at Area 51. [link] [comments]
Does Human Revolution get better? Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:30 AM PDT I've only played for an hr or so but I'm really not feeling it, narrative and visuals matter a lot to me and both seem rather weak. I played Vampire Bloodlines ages ago and honestly that game still looks better than this, far more appealing to look at, HR looks bland with its samey looking rooms with reused assets left and right, gameplay seems alright but inferior to other stealth games I played. So I beat the original deus ex (review) Posted: 17 Sep 2020 02:09 AM PDT First off playing this game now is downright creepy considering the state of the world. Story: 10/10 Hot damn this story is incredible it actually had me questioning myself by the end of the game for which ending to do. Simply put the story is to close to perfect as I've seen. In terms of endings my favorite to least favorite is: Illuminati: this one surprised me because it was the last one I went with and it seems just a keep the status quo and make no real change but I found myself really happy by the end because the world was being fixed instead of remade like the other two. I also enjoy this ending a lot because it's similar to a SMT neutral ending Helios: this ending was kinda meh for me because how little information how the world would end up Tong: this one was a huge disappoinment because I really liked tong as a character but I found his plan too extreme by basically resetting the whole world. Overall made me question why I lock myself in the bathroom Gameplay: 8/10 I found the gunplay at first to be a complete annoyance but once I got the sniper rifle then the dragon's tooth (way too op btw) it really clicked with switching agmentations to regenerate, speed up, and hit harder with melee weapons The skill system is great with it's ability to customize your character in basically infinite ways. Some skills are way better than others lowering the incentive to use them. Looking at you environmental training you suck ass. Also swimming is way too op plez fix Presentation: 6/10 I enjoy older looking games because they were more limited by the technology but hot damn this game didn't look too hot in 2000 The music while good isn't something I would listen too in my free time, except for the main theme which is a total banger and the kazoo version is weirdly better than the original in my eyes. The voice acting is hit or miss for me either it's excellent in basically every character in the final level or they sound like people they picked off the streets to say really bad stereotypical accents. The level design is both amazing and awful. It's amazing in the approach options and amount of ways to finish an objective. It's awful however in how simple it is like everything was made from boxes and nothing else and this wasn't a limitation of the time because half-life had less blocky environments two years earlier, though it is a huge game and space was probably highly strained Tl:dr 8.5/10 great game with only a couple of hiccups [link] [comments]
