My thoughts on Deus Ex HR, as a hardcore original game fan Posted: 20 Jun 2020 08:20 PM PDT I first played the original Deus Ex when I was 7, a demo version that came on a magazine CD in the early 2000's, it had only the first Liberty Island level and I was immediately blown away by its magic. I could breath the cold air surrounding the statue, the sea sounds were so vivid, crawling all the way to the top of the statue, the dialogue with the leader, and so on. A long time after I got my hands on a full game copy, when I was around 12, and the magic grew way stronger. We all know that feeling pretty well, those of us who had the luck of playing Deus Ex in a young age. But either way, when Deus Ex HR came out I wasn't so interested because I hadn't been playing games since I was 14, mainly because my pc sucked, so I shrugged and life went on. I got my hands on a decent computer a while ago and, quarantined at home, I decided to give the new game a go. I just finished it yesterday, it was surprisingly good, and I believe it was because the developers knew what a masterpiece the first one was, and they followed its steps. A lot of the overall system was pleasurabled to me because it was the most modern game I've played —I had never played something more recent than Oblivion— so I was really surprised with the engine of the game, things such as the combat, the stealth and other secondary aspects that the evolution of gaming technology brings, but we all know those things don't make a masterpiece. The maps felt a bit loopy. Like those hamsters mazes where you can only go foward and back, especially Shanghai, doesn't have the cold atmosphere of a Vandenberg airport, the charm of crawling through Paris sewers and ending up at a Cafe next to a tweaker club (that Hive club was so lame). The atmosphere lacked as well, we have good moments like the elevator going up Shanghai's upper city, but it is not nearly as good as having Paul's apartment invaded, being arrested by Gunther, the Morpheus dialogue, and so on. The main aspect is, of course, the plot, what makes the original Deus Ex as good as a Dickens classic, and HR's plot is simply weak. The idea to have a conflict between pro and anti augmentation is not bad, but the story doesn't develop at all, the characters are boring and flat, all we get is a weak protagonist arc that walks around until he realises something about augmentations that I don't even remember, nothing like the mind blowing "This is why I was made for isn't it?" the first one delivered. I cringe so much at that common sense humanitarian speech with some emotional random videos that are supposed to give the feeling "we live in a society", it was so corny, I went straight to a youtube video showing it to see the reactions, and to not to my surprise I found a bunch of 12 years overwhelmed trying to grasp philosophy, lame. I'm sorry for the rant, I actually had a good time playing it, but it is only a fun game that takes your mind away for a bit, while the original Deus Ex is art, organic and breathing art that is as vivid as a van gogh painting. I have a problem with deus ex human revolution director's cut Posted: 20 Jun 2020 07:09 PM PDT I've installed the game a few days ago and i'm enjoying it a lot. But today the game crashed when i tried to load it. I changed the compatibility mode to win7 (i'm using win10) and launched it as admin but it didn't work. Then i turned off the directx11 from options and the game loaded succesfully. Took it an eternity tho lol. And with dx11 off the game lags a lot and the fps just drops like a hot mixtape. When i turn on the dx11 again it runs smooth until i die and have to load a save again. I don't really want to cycle between dx11 on and off the entire game does anybody know a more convenient way to cope with this? Thx a lot in advance. [link] [comments] | ||
