For a campy, silly mash of conspiracies, Deus Ex sure proved to be perceptive in its political philosophy. I'm sitting here in the middle of a simultaneous plague and riot, after years of the economy trending more toward the kind of wealth concentration that leads to Bob Page types. The local news in LA looks like the monologue from the introduction of the first game should be playing over it.

Feelings after blindly completion of Deus Ex

    Posted: 30 May 2020 05:03 PM PDT

Hello there. I had just completed the first Deus Ex... what could I say? It is one of the best video games I have ever played in my life, and trust me, I am a huge retro fan so I know what am I saying. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't the best game I played overall, because the game left me so many feelings and memories ... I identified with the J.C Denton very much. I want to ask a few questions to you about Yours feelings about DX1, share mine and perhaps start some discussion between me, a fresh Deus Ex fan and the old experts of the franchise.

    1. Through my playthrough, I unfortunately let Paul die in that hotel. I have a strange feeling that the whole sequence with the MiB storming the hotel and the Dentons escaping from it wasn't properly thought out to the end, but propably it is only my personal opinion. I just received an objective to escape through the window, so I did that. It makes no sense though, why Paul is dying when we escape that way, when he is basically immortal (in the gameplay sense at least) and can take all of the agents and marines alone, all the J.C. had to do is wait politely in his secret locker during the massacre done by his older brother. The whole sequence isn't friendly at all to non-lethal players (I prefer playing that way), because it is very hard to avoid this number of guards looking in very unpleasant direction. Yes, I know we could use gas grenades but I think it's very lame. Tell me if you also let Paul die in your first approach or only I am such a lame.
    2. I tried to be as non-lethal as possible. But I wonder if killing animals (also grey dudes and these bio-modificated freaks) or robots could be a reason for admiting my non-lethal challenge as failed, I just couldn't stand these annoying spider bots so they ate my blue lightsaber from Hong-Kong chick. I think however that killing or knocking out all non-human creatures means the same, because even if I knocked the green birdy thingies using the baton, it shows that they are dead.
    3. I never killed a human in this game excluding "boss" characters, I always used stun prod or baton. Well, on the second thought... not exactly - at the first moments of the game when I wasn't so experienced in the stealth I killed these two NSF guys which were keeping hostages on the hotel's second floor. But the hostages made it, so that's fine. Although I'm proud that I never did a massacre with dragon blade, even when it was too tempting. And that's my question - is it possible to knock out Gunther Hermann or Anne Navarre without killing them? I saw a video where a guy knocked out Simmons at the Area 51 after he seriously damaged him using a crossbow, but I have some strange feeling that this video is faked and the game was modded on it, especially that the author of the video was so proud of him that he finally show everyone the truth.

That would be about it, share your fellings with me now.

EDIT: Btw, I have to tell that I'm terribly sorry for my first judgment on this game. I tried it for the first time, I don't know... a half year ago and after 5 minutes of gameplay I said that this game is a pure shit and I didn't understand its' phenomenon. Maybe because my earlier experiences with mindless FPS-es like Quake or Doom. I'm very sorry and I hope you all will forgive me for this stupid statement.

i tried to replay this game and messd up.

so i tried to replay dx1 and got up to lebedev's airfield. ive been doing a non lethal run for all the time but ive got to the point where i have to escape to get to battery park and save paul, but i think he died to the unatco troopers since i havent seen him try to kill anyone or see him at all after he went downstairs in the 'ton hotel. i didnt save him on my first playthrough which was lethal after ive got up to the nyc rooftops (god i hate that level). i discovered some new stuff like the ability to break doors with low tech weapons on advanced and it really got me to replay it on non-lethal. too bad i havent picked up the pepper spray and now the game is like really hardcore. my dumbass always used quick saves and i got to the point of no return. on my latest quick save, im escaping the 'ton hotel, paul is probably dead and im next to a room full of unatco troopers. its probably impossible to save paul without going lethal at least once. goddamn it. im not gonna be replaying this game prob for a looong time again. especially on non lethal. i realized how bottlenecked the escape sequence is at the 'ton hotel especially when youre even more handicapped on non lethal without a pepper spray. goddamn it, all my efforts wasted.

And they say that games like Deus Ex will never teach you life lessons...I was utterly wrong after doing this quest. (Disclaimer: spoiler alert, image marked as spoiler so do it at your own risk.)
