So I just beat Deus Ex...

...And jeez, I can't tell when was the last time I had such a great time playing a game. Even though it has its batch of defects (approximate stealth and AIs), the game still managed to be great from the beginning until the very end.

I especially loved how the level design allowed you to progress in a dozen of ways, the health system with body parts injuries, and the great palette of choices within the scenario. Even though you think you completed everything, there is always an unopened door, an unused weapon, a new playstyle to experiment with.

    And I noticed something.

This game was released in 2000, and I have the feeling that almost no big games companies tried to explore such a big spectra of possibilities and philosophies that Deus Ex offered. The main example I have in my mind is Metro Exodus. Even if this game is visually gorgeous and has a very well directed story, I can't help but feel that this game moralizes or even blames the player of his choices throughout the game (for example, killing a specific character triggered a loss of "karma"), and if you have good karma, you can MAYBE get the good ending (at least, it was the case for the two previous iterations of Metro).

On the other hand, Deus Ex stays much more philosophical, that is to say the game tries to make some "bad" events look not so bad (for example, you can join the Illuminati, or even merge with an AI which was planned to be used by the bad guys), and each character offering you those options has his arguments to support his opinion. They just have reasons to believe in their choices.

I just have the feeling that we have lost this complexity and philosophy that made Deus Ex special, as if we had to follow a story instead of writing our own, from the storyline to our behaviour.

    What a shame.

I started playing it a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. However I just beat it this evening and realized something terrible as I was getting the credits. I never got my No Kill achievement because I killed the first person I came across in the intro mission.... Soooo Round 2?

Is the Human Revolution Director's Cut really bad compared to basic versions?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 03:36 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I've just randomly read (to my surprise) that the Director's Cut is a buggier and graphically downgraded version of the normal one. Is this STILL the case even in 2019?? How comes Steam does not sell the original, then?

[DX1] My laptop broke few months ago and my save games are write protected after trying to recover them from my hard drive...

...Is it possible to remove the protection, any IT Expert here? If not I'll go to my main question, I just reached the end of HongKong in the original Deus Ex and want to know how far I'm away from the end. I enjoyed this game much, really, one of the best videogames I've ever played, but I'm not willing to do a 2nd playthrough because even though its a great game, you cant overlook the age of the game (Gameplaywise). Of course its fun but, like many other old videogames, you feel the age.

If its not that far away, can someone recommend me a good story recap on YT, I don't want to miss the excelent story line...

My game runs too damn fast, and it keeps skipping lines. Any help please?

It's ruining the story, I can't pay attention to the dialogue because it cuts off before someone can finish a sentence! I can fix this issue if I use a different render. Problem is when I use a different render the game becomes too dark. Any advice guys?

    Question on Walton Simons

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 08:32 AM PST

Does he have the genetic profile to accept nano augmentation like Paul Denton, or did MJ12 they have to modify his body in order to be able to accept them? I'm asking because of the bioelectric wires on his face.
